Wiser, cautious luxury retail buyers are back in the game

High-end retailers Nordstrom and Neiman Marcus are reporting stronger sales. At the Ed Morse car lot in Brandon, Cadillac sales in April nearly tripled from a year ago, while its sister dealership in Tampa is having a run on the high-end SRX SUVs. And Jackie Colson-Miller, a South Tampa real estate agent dealing in luxury properties, has trouble finding enough houses in the $1.2 million and up range to satisfy deep-pocketed, out-of-town buyers. The luxury buyer is coming back. SOURCE:	St. Petersburg Times | Posted: 06/11/10 at 0215 EDST

Oil spill: Pensacola commission OKs spending $700K in BP funds on tourism

The money is to produce television commercials on the current state of local shores. The ads are to run in Pensacola's major metro feeder markets, such as Atlanta, Birmingham and New Orleans. Escambia County received the money, via the state, late last month. It was turned over to the Convention and Visitors Bureau, an arm of the Pensacola Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, which handles tourism advertising for the county.
Metro Orlando home repossessions increase in May

The overall number of foreclosure filings in Metro Orlando was down 2 percent in May from a month earlier and down 28 percent from a year earlier. The four-county metro area posted 6,323 filings in May, or one for every 142 households. But a breakdown of that overarching trend toward a recovery shows that, although the number of initial foreclosure filings continues to drop, banks are increasingly taking possession of people's homes. In May, the Orlando market logged 1,569 legal filings for properties taken over by banks up 44 percent from a year earlier. SOURCE: Orlando Sentinel | Posted: 06/11/10 at 0245 EDST

Chicago area foreclosure filings soar, then dip

The number of homes in the Chicago area receiving a foreclosure filing in May jumped 33.8 percent from a year earlier to 14,095, but was down 19.6 percent from April. In Cook County, it rose 9.73 percent over the year to 7,681 and fell 17.3 percent from April. In Illinois, the number soared 37.7 percent from a year earlier, but was down 20.2 percent from April. Reports show the state lagging a national trend of foreclosures leveling off. One in every 350 homes in the state was in foreclosure, ranking the state eighth.
